Day 2 of our Grade 5 Bridge Building Project:
Studens are using their critical thinking skills to adjust and improve their designs. They've done some research on bridge design, including popsicle stick bridge design and are using principles such as triangles and trusses to build strong structures. Here are some pictures of some early ideas and designs. I wonder which ones will prove strong enought to make it to the final bridge design?
Remember:
Students can only use popsicle sticks, white glue, tape, straws and cardboard.
The bridge must span a 25 cm gap between two chairs or desks.
The bridge can only be 1 popsicle stick wide.

We also got to do some hands on learning in our study of capacity in Grade 4 and 5 today.
Students brought in examples of containers with different capacities from home. We used some of these and measuring cylinders to estimate the capacity of some different sized containers. They then checked their estimate by pouring water into them and checking the amounts in the measuring cylinders. Unfortuanately, I don't have pictures. :)
We also tried some new games for learning in our hockey unit. We played games which concentrated on improving out passing and shooting. Next class we will modified hockey games which will help us develoop our stickhandling, passing, shooting and game awareness.
