Here are some video resources for measurement.
Our learning objectives are:
Grade 4
1. To estimate, measure and record distances in millimetres, centimetres, meters, and kilometres).
2. To convert distances between different units of length (millimetre,
centimetres, meters, and kilometres).
3. To convert between fractions and distance. Example 1/4 of 400km is 100km.
4. To convert between decimals and distance. Example: Joe walked 0.2 of the km walk to his house. Therefore, he walked 200 metres.
Time:
Using an analogue clock, estimate and measure and represent time to the nearest minute.
To be able to tell elapsed time in 5 minute intervals, hours, days, weeks, months and years
Grade 5
1. To estimate, measure and record distances in millimetres, centimetres, meters, decimetres and kilometres.
Time
Using an analogue clock, estimate and measure and represent time to the nearest second.
To be able to tell elapsed time in minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years
To be able to convert between a 12 hour and a 24 hour clock.
Remember: Khan Academy is an American site. We only need to know about metric measurements. Don't worry about feet, inches, yards etc.
Let's start with a MEASUREMENT RAP!!
1. Converting Units of Length
2. Converting between units of time - Only watch this video
3. Converting between kilometres, metres and centimetres Again, just watch this one.
4. Word Problems: Time - Do only the first 3 here.
If you find any great explanations please post them in the comments!
